The Texas Defense Academy lead instructors are highly trained with years of experience in multiple disciplines, including physical fitness, martial arts, wrestling, and firearms. We maintain a high standard of professionalism and we seek to provide a high quality training experience, giving you only the the best in personal protection, self defense, and martial arts instruction.
Edwin Rodriguez: Edwin is the backbone of the school and one of our lead instructors. Passionate about self defense and martial arts training, Edwin is highly ranked in the Keysi Fighting Method, holds a Level 2 in CSW student, former ACWA Combatives instructor and is lead instructor for the Pekiti Tirsia Kali program under the guidance of Tuhon Tim Waid. He is also one of the four creators of Ballistic3 – The Study of Motion. He continues to seek knowledge outside of TDA to better himself, and members of the TDA. Edwin is truly a “people person” who goes above and beyond for the students of the TDA.
Bryan Malatesta: Bryan is passionate about fitness and training, always seeking a better solution for those who are truly in need. Bryan is one of the four original founder of the Texas Defense Academy, having first begun his teaching journey in 2008 under the name Keysi Fighting Method – Fort Worth (KFM Fort Worth). Bryan is one of the four creators of the Ballistic3 program and is also the head coach for the Combat Submission Wrestling program here at TDA. Bryan also holds a Basic Pistol teaching certification from the NRA, is a Texas state licensed LTC instructor, and is a former ACWA Combatives instructor.
Michael Current: Michael is one of the four founders of TDA. He is also a co-founder and creator of Ballistic 3. He holds an NRA Pistol Instructor certification and is also a Distinguished Graduate (DG) of Front Site Firearms Academy Pistol Training. Michael held a very High Ranking of Blue in KFM under Chief Instructor Bryan Malatesta. He has trained CSW (Level 1 certified) as well as ranking in Pekiti Tursia Kali (PTK). Mike was also a lead instructor for Academy of Combative Warrior Arts (A.C.W.A.). Mike enjoys all things Self Defense and really enjoys running the B3 Instructor Camps and Firearms training.
Terry Whiddon: Terry is a lead instructor and one of the 4 founders of TDA. He held a rank of Brown level in Keysi Fighting Method (KFM). Terry is one of a very small group from the United States that trained in Spain with the founders of KFM receiving his UrbanX weapons teaching certification as well. Terry was a ACWA lead instructor and has a served as lead coach for CSW at TDA. Terry has the ability to go beyond the curriculum brining the arts truly alive and reachable for every student. Two of his favorite sayings when teaching are “Motion is the only true truth in martial arts” and “Modification Brings Gratification”. Terry imbodies those sayings as he helps every student customize there training as he only want his students to become the best they can be.
