ABOUT TDA SELF DEFENSE (DX)
TDA Combatives (Self Defense) is a street-oriented self-defense program designed with multiple opponents in mind. Utilizing continuous motion as its basis, the program teaches you to maintain 360° awareness and to employ your body’s natural weapons while maintaining a constant state of protective cover. Our primary goal is to help you to prevail in a violent confrontation. We do so by developing your body mechanics and your body’s natural defensive structure in a manner unique to YOU.
Our program will not only help you to refine your body and movements for survival, it will also cultivate your primal instincts, developing a deeper sense of self-confidence within you. We hold ourselves to the training philosophy that there are no rules in the streets. There is no referee to make sure your opponent “fights fair”. There is no help right around the corner. Let’s be frank here – any confrontation today can end with you in an emergency room… or worse.
Street confrontations often happen in poor lighting, with the threat of concealed weapons ever-present, and with you likely outnumbered.
That is the reality we teach you to anticipate, and the reality we train for. We train gross motor skills exclusively. When faced with one or more opponents, your body has a natural fear response. You will not be capable of performing or even remembering, intricate movements designed to only impress people in a training hall. We teach you to harness that fear response, utilize that fear as your body was designed to, and in the end to overcome it.
HOW PREPARE ARE YOU?
In the streets, no one slows down for you. We teach mindset, concepts, tactics, and tools, but those need to be backed up by strength, speed, and stamina. Our self defense training shows you how your gross motor skills work for you under pressure and build the physical skills you need to prevail.
DO YOU COVER WEAPONS?
Yes, we do! We incorporate Everyday Carry (EDC) training in order to teach the importance of movement. We even teach you how to use everyday objects as improvised defensive tools if you find yourself in need. If you can pick it up, we can probably teach you to defend yourself with it.
WHAT IS THE ENVIRONMENT LIKE?
Self defense training takes place both indoors and outdoors, in both open and confined places. We vary the lighting, from full light to low light (and sometimes even to no light), and we include other environmental distractions. We train you to maintain focus under any circumstance and use the environment to your benefit. These training experiences will keep you safe in the real world. I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AND I DON’T WANT TO SLOW DOWN THE CLASS
Our students are women and men who share the desire to increase their self-confidence and ability to realistically defend themselves and their loved ones. We have various previous experience in martial arts and self-defense. Classes are structured in a way where students of each level of proficiency are challenged and trained.
WHAT IS THE CLASS ADVANCEMENT LIKE?
Unlike some traditional systems, belts are not worn here, but instead, we use silicon wrist bands to recognize student achievement. Rank and testing are part of our program, but it is optional, as we understand that everyone has different goals. However, we always encourage students to test and celebrate your accomplishments. In the end, however, we want to offer you real-world solutions, not just a colored wristband.
